Scope and Content

In 1935 the boundaries of Abergele and Pensarn Urban District Council (UDC), Denbighshire, were extended, and the authority was renamed Abergele UDC. The Council consisted of councillors and a chairman, elected for three years. The UDC's responsibilities included sanitary services, sewerage, refuse collection, housing, streets, cemeteries, libraries, parks, controls on buildings such as petrol stations, and licensing of public entertainments. UDCs were administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer, Medical Officer of Health, Surveyor, Rating Officer and Sanitary Inspector. Abergele UDC was abolished following local government reorganisation in 1974, becoming part of Colwyn Borough Council, Clwyd.

Scope and content: Records of Abergele Urban District Council, 1933-1974, comprising Clerk's department records, 1935-1974, including Council and committee minutes, 1935-1974, correspondence files, 1935-1961, attendance registers, 1962-1973, and records relating to the Second World War, 1939-1947; Treasurers' accounts and ledgers, 1935-1969; Rating Officers' rate books, 1936-1972, and valuation lists, 1935-1970; registers of houses, 1935-1971; maps and plans, 1935-1970; and miscellaneous Public Health Inspectors' and Engineers' registers, 1933-1965.
