Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Wynn & Sons Ltd were a firm of haulage contractors based in Newport, Monmouthshire. The company was founded by Thomas Wynn in 1863 and inherited by Robert Wynn (1863-1923) in 1878. Robert expanded the business and moved to Shaftsbury Street, Newport, in 1902, and later to Albany Street. The firm was incorporated as Robert Wynn and Sons Ltd in 1923. The firm specialised in transporting difficult and heavy loads, often devising innovative solutions to problems. During the 20th century the firm created or acquired several subsiduaries. The company eventually became Wynns Ltd. Having disappeared in the 1980s, the name Robert Wynn & Sons was revived in 2000 as a subsidiary of Wynns Ltd, now based in Staffordshire.
