Scope and Content

This oral history collection comprises six interviews with small groups of people who were Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADs) for the Leicestershire Red Cross during and after the Second World War.

Administrative / Biographical History

This collection was organised by the Leicestershire Branch of British Red Cross. During the Second World War, the Red Cross and Auxiliary hospitals sprung up rapidly and mainly used Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADs) to provide nursing care to those effected by the war.
