Joint Wages Commission Report of the Federation of Malaya and Singapore, 1948, with related papers on labour regulation and statistical information; Chinese papers relating to the Malayan emergency, 1948-1949; notes on Malayan political parties, 1954; lectures and articles on Malayan Chinese; speeches and pamphlets given to Brewer by Dato Sir Cheng-lock Tan; invitations and programmes for independence celebrations and other events, 1953-1959.

Administrative / Biographical History

Frank Brewer (1915-1987) worked in the Malayan Civil Service, 1937-1959, including as Secretary for Chinese Affairs and Deputy Chief Secretary, Federation of Malaya, 1955-1957 and Secretary for Defence, 1957-1959. He served in the Special Forces during the Second World War, 1941-1945 and was held as a prisoner of war on Sumatra. From 1960 to 1976 he worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He was awarded the CMG in 1960 and the OBE in 1953. In 1950 he married Eileen Marian Shepherd.
