Administrative / Biographical History

The Shipbuilding Industry Training Board was established c.1965  with the objectives of helping develop the skills and efficiency of all those working within the shipbuilding industry. The Training Board published guidelines and training policies, as well as training excercises for workers and employers to complete. The Board had several committees and panels working alongside them to better equip and train the workers. However, on the 16th November 1981, the Secretary of State for Employment announced that the Shipbuilding Industry Training Board, along with fifteen other training boards, was to be abolished. The Board was subsequently done away with in late 1982  .
