Acquisition Information

The volume's links to Valencia suggest that it may have belonged to Antonio Pedro Sancho Dvila y Osorio, Marqus de Astorga, de Velada y de San Roman, who became Viceroy of Valencia in 1664. One poem deals with Astorga's pardoning of a student condemned to death. The anthology was probably part of the Astorga manuscripts acquired by the bookseller Thomas Thorpe from Spain during the 1820s. The volume was bought from Thorpe by Sir Thomas Phillipps, and became MS 2466 in his library. It was part of the sale of his collection at Sotheby's on 26 June 1973 where it was purchased by the Library.
