A bill of sale for an enslaved woman, probably from the south-eastern United States of America. Mary W Bramtly(?) is selling Emeline to John Eady and Simeon(?) Perry for $400.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Eady and a Simmean Perry appear in the 1850 Macon County, Alabama census of owners of enslaved people. Eady has 14 slaves and Perry has 26. Simeon Perry is given as the name of two generations of owners of enslaved people in Lauderdale, Tenesse and Edmondton, North Carolina, in the account of the life of Allen Sidney who was born enslaved in 1804 (Blassingame, John W. 'Slave Testimony: Two Centuries of Letters, Speeches, Interviews and Autobiographies' Louisiana State University Press: 1977. pp521-523).
