Administrative / Biographical History

John Anthony Harrison studied at the University of Sheffield and wrote a dissertation in 1974 titled 'The Phrenologists as agents of informal education: a general re-assessment with a more detailed examination of their contribution towards the creation of an informal social adjustment and advisory service for the people as revealed in their vocational and sex guidance advice, 1840-1900' as part of Harrison's masters degree in education. The dissertation is included as part of this collection, which also contains journal articles relating to phrenology compiled by Harrison, newspaper cuttings, bibliographies, card indexes of research notes, and lists of source material on phrenology compiled by Harrison for the University of Sheffield.
