Sean Hagerty (1929 - 2004) was born Eric John Hagerty in Everton, Liverpool. He was educated at the Wirral Grammar School and appointed Head of Art at Holyhead County School in 1956. He remained a teacher at Holyhead until his retirement in 1985. From 1964 he lived at Groes Beuno, Llanddeusant, Anglesey and died in June 2004. He was a member of the WJEC Art and Design Panel and helped to set up a WJEC A Level in Photography and Architecture. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1958. He became an Associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1995. His most typical work was as a landscape artist in both urban and rural settings and his preferred media were oil and pen and ink. He was a skilled photographer whose work appeared in many publications such as "Country Life" and "The Field". His interest in industrial archaeology led him to keep records of buildings such as the detailed record of the restoration of Melin Llynnon at Llanddeusant, Anglesey.
