The British Association for the Advancement of Science was founding in 1831 . By 2003, the Association was known as the BA and had a world wide membership dedicated to the communication and appreciation of science. The Association embraces all areas of science, forging links between them and working with them to communicate, discuss and promote all aspects of science and its influence on peoples' lives. In 1914 , the Association undertook a trip to Australia, lead by Sir Edward and Lady Shafer. Sir Oliver Lodge who gave a number of talks and lectures during the visit also accompanied them.
