Born 5 July 1863. Student Interpreter, 1883; Assistant, 1885; Vice-Consul, Massowah, 1890; Consul and Oriental Secretary, Cairo, 1899-1909; Consul-General, Berlin, 1909-14; retired July 1914. Married 1914 Clara Asch. Foreign Office Aug.1914-Oct.1915. Intelligence Division, War Office, Feb. 1917. Died 6 April 1937.
