The research notes form a comprehensive card index, and are arranged in the same order as the York volumes were produced. Certain aspects of the city of York, e.g. the bars and walls, appear in more than one volume, therefore in most cases all five boxes will need to be searched. Five volumes of the history were produced, however there are no research notes relating to volume I (Roman York) existing in this collection.
