    • 1 vol. ([i], 71 pp.) The text of the last constituent poem and the corresponding Latin version is in a sloping roman hand. The recto page before the text bears signature "Plume of Polwart" and a Latin motto. Bound in contemporary calf. Shelf-mark "A.1.22".

Scope and Content

Part Two (only) of Colvil's long Hudibrastic satire, largely on the Scottish Presbyterian covenanters, ending with a Latin version of the final 36 English lines.

Administrative / Biographical History

Samuel Colvil (or Colvill, or Colville), a Scottish satirist, published his Mock Poem in London in 1681. It was reissued in 1687 as The Whiggs supplication and in 1692 as The Scotch Hudibras; it was frequently reprinted in the 18th century. Colvil also published The grand impostor discovered; or, An historical dispute of the papacy and popish religion (Edinburgh, 1673).
