Scope and Content

The collection contains photographs including early family photographs of the O'Connor, contemporary research and journal articles written by Vanessa Toulmin, director of the National Fairground Archive. Also included in the collection are manuscripts, newspaper cuttings, and a small number of posters.

Administrative / Biographical History

Professor Vanessa Toulmin is the founder and Research Director and of the NFA at the University of Sheffield and is one of the NFA personnel. She comes from a Lancashire showland family, and completed her PhD in 1997. She was awarded the Chancellor's Medal in 1997 for outstanding achievement and became a Professor in 2007.
