Administrative / Biographical History

Local Executive Councils were constituted by section 31 of the National Health Service Act 1946, in order to exercise functions with respect to the provision of general medical, dental, pharmaceutical and supplementary opthalmic services. The Council consisted of members nominated by the Minister of Health, by the County Council and by the Local Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Committees. The Pembrokeshire Insurance Committee was a predecessor body, which dealt with family doctors, dentists and pharmaceutical arrangements in Pembrokeshire. In 1974, the Local Executive Council was replaced by Pembrokeshire Health Authority.
