The black and white photographs in the collection depict people, events (including the General Strike, 1926), rural scenes, industrial buildings, collieries, farm animals, church architecture and historic houses in a variety of locations in the East Midlands. Places include: Eastwood, Annesley, Nuthall, Strelley, Beauvale, Greaseley, Kimberley, Bottesford, Nottingham, Awsworth, Gunthorpe, Newthorpe, Stapleford, Lowdham, Giltbrook, and Halloughton in Nottinghamshire; Ambergate, Dale Abbey, Bakewell, Haddon, Rowsley, Codnor, and Heanor in Derbyshire; and Dishley Abbey, Ragdale, and Woodhouse Eaves in Leicestershire. The prints are accompanied by negatives of the photographs and a manuscript list of the images depicted. There are approximately 250 prints and negatives.
