Scope and Content

A scrap book belonging geographically to the Llanrwst, Denbighshire area and revolving around John Jones of the Venedocian Press. Includes poetry by various composers such as Ieuan Glan Geirionydd, Joseph Evans and Ellis Evans and a few letters addressed to John Jones, c. 1820-1850.

One odd item within this scrap book is a warrant from the Justices of Denbighshire to raise £94.6.0 from the inhabitants of Isdulas towards the repair of bridges and the county hall in Wrexham, 13 July 1709.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Jones appears to be the person responsible for the compilation of this scrap book. He was the man behind the Venedocian Press, which was based either in Trefriw, Caernarfonshire or Llanrwst, Denbighshire.

Two works which appeared from the Venedocian Press were Drych y prif oesoedd by Theophilus Evans (Trefriw, 1822) and Gramadeg dwyieithawg by John Williams (Llanrwst, 1827)
