Scope and Content

Volume primarily comprises manuscript poetry including original works. Although the front cover states E. Dukes, Burton-on-Trent, 20 October 1847, the paperback volume appears to have been additionally used throughout 1848. One poem is dated 1849 and another dated 1852 towards the rear of the volume. Pages have been numbered and the final page includes an index which lists the contents of the volume.

Administrative / Biographical History

It has not been possible to discover additional information about the compiler of this volume, E. Dukes (fl. 1847-1852). Internal evidence suggests that the author was probably female and that she likely lived in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. Internal evidence indicates that the author visited Cheshire and Liverpool during 1848
