Administrative / Biographical History

Abersychan Local Board of Health was created in Abersychan, Monmouthshire, under the Public Health Act 1848. As a result of the Public Health Act 1872 it became an urban sanitary authority, called Abersychan Local Board. The Board was responsible for various aspects of public health including sewerage, street cleaning and highways. In 1894 the Local Board became Abersychan Urban District Council.
