Scope and Content

Two autograph letters from Rupert Brooke to James Dixon, a member of the Fijian Civil Service whom Brooke had met during a visit to Fiji. The first was written from the Grand Hotel, Auckland, New Zealand, dated 'December 17? 1913' (the query is Brooke's), and accompanied a gift of books from Brooke to Dixon and his family. The second was written from Rugby, dated 21 July 1914, and responded to news of Dixon's terminal illness; it is accompaned by an envelope postmarked London, 24 July 1914, and Suva, 8 September 1914. Dixon had already died before it was written.
