On June 12th, 1936, the British cargo ship 'Eilianus', built in 1917 by Van Vliet & Co and owned at the time of her loss by W. Thomas & Sons., Beaumaris, on voyage from Le Havre to Briton Ferry with a cargo of scrap iron, was lost after running aground 5 miles south of Hartland Point.
