Scope and Content

Consists of milling account book of Preston Mills, Weymouth, Dorset 1856-1859; farm account book of Bovington Farm, Wool, Dorset 1921-1957

Administrative / Biographical History

The donor's family are well-known as breeders of Dorset Down sheep. It was their practice to rent out dairy facilities. The family made little use of power-driven mechanisation and until the 1930's all thrashing was done by water-power

Farm size was probably 1000 acres, which fell to 500 acres after requisition by the Army during World War 1; heath soils; tenants on Framton Estate
