Collection of loose prints showing the three pages of the Proclamation issued by S.J. Burger and L.J. Meyer to the Burgomaster of Pretoria on May 29 1900, placing the city under his authority as the Boer Government quitted Pretoria in the face of the British advance. The document, in Afrikaans but accompanied by a letterpress English translation, instructed the Burgomaster to 'call up inhabitants for special services to preserve peace and order,' 'to remove all undesirables out of the town,' to keep British prisoners of war under control and to hand over authority to Lord Roberts on his arrival. Roberts occupied Pretoria on June 5 1900.
