Administrative / Biographical History

Established as the County Accountants Society and renamed as the Society of County Treasurers in 1950. It is still in existence and is comprised of all Chief Financial Officers from shire counties in English local government. Following the reorganisation of local government in 1997, the society expanded to include authorities other than shire counties that had similar vested interests in local government issues. Thus, the newly formed Isle of Wight Council, East Riding of Yorkshire and Herefordshire unitary authorities also became members of the SCT
