Scope and Content

Deeds and other documents of the Dolmelynllyn estate, Merionethshire, 1778-1796, relating to properties in Llanelltyd, Llanddwywe, Dolgellau and Llanfachreth, Merionethshire, in Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire, and in Derbyshire, including attested copies, 1795-1796, of deeds (1692-1795).

Administrative / Biographical History

Dolmelynllyn, Llanelltyd, Merionethshire, was settled by Griffith Vaughan (d. 1700), son of Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt, in the late 17th century. The Dolmelynllyn estate was sold by his great-great-grandson, Captain Robert Vaughan (d. 1795), in the late 18th century. Dolmelynllyn was in the possession of William Alexander Madocks (1773-1828) for a time. He also came into possession of Cae Perwyn, Llanddwywe, Merionethshire. The estate was eventually purchased by Charles Reynolds Williams (b. 1815). He conveyed it to his son, Romer Williams, solicitor, in 1892, and the estate was sold by him in 1907.
