Administrative / Biographical History

Dennis Butts began the collection during the 1960s, when he began to think about the origins of the British Boys' Adventure Story. Despite being one of the most prolific and popular boys' authors of the first half of the 20th century there was very little avaliable information on Westerman or the number of works he wrote. This inspired Dennis to compile a checklist of known Westerman works and the collection was built from there.

Percy F. Westerman was a prolific writer of adventure stories between 1908 and 1959. The Collection comprises six typescripts and five scrapbooks containing material pertinent to his work. Representative published stories are included in the Collection.
