Administrative / Biographical History

Dr Binita Kane has been spearheading a campaign to declare an annual day to commemorate the Partition of India. In addition the campaign is lobbying to get the subject added to the national curriculum. The campaign was officially launched in Manchester on Friday 17 Aug 2018 at Manchester Central Library. This event Commemorating the Partition of India was supported by Councillor Rahman and was the inaugural event. There was representation from Manchester Museum, Esme Ward, Museum Director was a speaker and members of the learning team were there. Atiha Chaudry from the BME network attended, who were partners on the Memories of Partition project. Laura Briggs, represented at Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre who were also partners in the Memories of Partition project and was available to answer any questions about accessing the Memories of Partition archive material.
