This material is held atUniversity of Nottingham Manuscripts and Special Collections

Scope and Content

The collection comprises one plan of the ground floor of an unidentified house, no date. The layout of the rooms, walls, windows and stairs has been drawn in black ink. The names and dimensions of the rooms have been written in a different ink. The house is square, with windows on all four sides of the building. The front has a central door with three windows to each side. Pilasters appear to decorate the central portions of three of the four sides. The rooms on the ground floor, working clockwise from the front door, are a hall, dining room, ante-room, drawing room, library, 'My Lady's dressing room', bedroom, 'My Lord's dressing room', a room for business, and a parlour; with a central great staircase, and back stairs, passage and powdering room.

'For D. of Portland' has been written onto the plan in pencil.

Scale: 1 inch to 10 feet.

Administrative / Biographical History

The plan would appear, from its style and handwriting, to date from the early nineteenth century, and therefore probably from the time of William H.C. Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland (1738-1809), or his son William H. Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, 4th Duke of Portland (1768-1854).
