Ehedydd Il Account Book

An account book belonging to Ehedydd Il in his capacity as both farmer and inn-keeper of Tafarn-y-Gath in Llandegla, Denbighshire. Mostly consists of information regarding farm life, although there are a few poetical entries.

William Jones, also known as Ehedydd Il was born in 1815 in Derwen, Denbighshire and died in 1899. His main occupation was farming, although he also spent some time as an inn-keeper. According to The Dictionary of Welsh Biography Down in 1940, at Tafarn-y-Gath, a farm and public house near Llandegla, William Jones was a farmer and an unwilling inn-keeper until eight years later when the inn was converted into a farmhouse.

Although he never attended school William Jones became a poet and is particularly well-known for his hymns. His poetical works were published in 1898 under the title Blodau Il.
