Scope and Content

Elegant copy of the Qur'an with fine Persian floral lacquered binding. A Persian colophon gives the patron as the Nawab Ahmad 'Ali Khan Bahadur and the copyist as Mirza Muhammad Kazim. It also gives date: AH1266/AD[1851]. Written in naskhi, Arabic. 10th Rabi' ul-amoral on outside cover; Muhammad 'Ali Naggash noted as painter of cover.

Nawab Mir Ahmad 'Ali Khan Bahadur (1822-1879), from the ruling family of the state of Hyderbad, the Asaf Jahi dynasty.
