Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The London Deep Sea Tramp Ship Owners' Association was formed in order to promote and protect the interests of tramp ship owners. Inaugurated in 1944, the Association quickly became involved in representing its members' views at Chamber of Shipping meetings, with whom it was closely affiliated. The Association's monthly meetings were also held in the Chamber's offices in London. At its second meeting, membership of the Association was said to number 58, representing a wide range of British shipping companies. Two members of the Association sat on the Chamber of Shipping's Council, with that number rising to three in 1948. The association also worked closely with the London and District Coasting and Short Sea Tramp Ship Owners' Association (MSS.367/LDC), and the London General Shipowners' Society, under whose administration it passed in 1967.
