Administrative / Biographical History
The Harveys were one of the prominent Quaker families in Leeds in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They were related, by marriage, to several other local Quaker families, including the Fryer, Firth and Jowitt families. John Wilfred Harvey (son of William and Anna Maria Harvey and youngest brother of the Leeds MP, T.E.Harvey), was a poet and philosopher, and held the Chair of Philosophy at the University of Leeds from 1932 to 1954
