Administrative / Biographical History
The Jones family of Rock House, Llanllwchaiarn, Montgomeryshire, were owners of the Rock estate, Llanllwchaiarn and Newtown. The Bennett and Meddins families lived in Newtown, Montgomeryshire. The Davies family lived in Manafon, Montgomeryshire. Pryce Jones (1834-1920) of Newtown was a mail order and parcel post pioneer. He began his own drapery business in Newtown in 1859, and from there established the world's first mail order service. His Royal Welsh Warehouse was opened in the town in 1879. He was knighted in 1887, becoming Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones. He died on 11 January 1920 and was buried in Llanllwchaiarn.
