The collection consists of: 'Margaret Geddes' by D J Wilcox, 1998, St Ives Printing and Publishing. Cassette recording of a talk to the Ilkley Art Club, 1966. Reviews 1938-1973, correspondence includes letter from Society of Women Artists and Orovida Pissaro. Press cuttings relating to Women's International Art Club exhibition 1949. Collated diary entries 1932-1936 with reference to Westminster School of Art. Catalogues for Women's International Art Club 1950s and 1960s. Catalogue of Margaret Geddes Retrospective exhibition 1973.

Administrative / Biographical History

Margaret Geddes was born in 1914. She studied at the Westminster School of Art 1932-1937. She exhibited for the first time with the London group in 1938 and her work was shown at the Royal Academy in 1940. She became a member of the left-wing artists group Artists International Association in 1947. In 1948 she began a friendship with Edith Sitwell which resulted in a number of drawings and paintings of the well-known literary eccentric. She was elected Chairman of the Women's International Art Club, 1951-1955. Margaret Geddes was a regular exhibitor in London and the provinces. She also exhibited in Scotland, Northern Ireland, France, Holland, France and Greece.
