Administrative / Biographical History

Kate Winifred Jones-Roberts OBE (1889-1971), daughter of Catherine and Rees Roberts, was born in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Merionethshire. She married John Jones Roberts, barrister (d 1962). Kate Jones-Roberts held many positions, including Justice of the Peace, 1955-1964, Deputy Chairman of Merioneth Court of Quarter Sessions, 1955-1964, Chairman of the Ffestiniog Bench of Magistrates, 1959-1964, and Merioneth Magistrates Court Committee, 1962-1964. She was also involved in education, sitting on the Merioneth Education Committee, 1939-1970, and teaching at Coleg Harlech between 1960 and 1966. D. R. Daniel (1859-1931) was Alderman of Caernarfonshire County Council, 1895-1901; Kate Winifred Jones-Roberts researched an article on his life, published in 1965. She also researched the German dramatist, Göethe.
