An ‘Inter Service Small Arms Experimental Establishment’ was established by the Ministry of Defence at Pendine in 1940. Following a review of all the ranges owned and run by the MOD, it was decided that Pendine should become a permanent establishment for the testing and evaluation of a wider variety of weapons.
