Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
SAIMA was established in 1975 to give managers separate trade union representation in view of the imminent nationalisation of shipbuilding. It joined with the Electrical Power Engineers' Association (EPEA) in 1978, when the EPEA re-established itself as the Engineers' and Managers' Association (EMA). John Lyons remained General Secretary of the federal body, which continued in membership of the TUC. The SAIMA Group of the EMA was succeeded in 1986 by the Shipbuilding, Engineering and Aerospace Group, which from 1 June 1993 it was fully assimilated into the EMA. In 2000 an EMA shipbuilding industry committee was continuing the work of SAIMA.
