Scope and Content

There are 7 volumes entitled 'Egg-Books kept at Muoniovara, by F.W. Knoblock for John Wolley and Alfred Newton, from 1857 to 1864 inclusive'. It gives details of dates on which the eggs were obtained and the numbers written on the eggs. The arrangement with Newton and Wolley was suspended in 1864.

An 8th volume has a journal of a journey kept by Ludwig M. Knoblock. The Museum holds a typed transcript of the Swedish text made in 1990 by Per J. Tommeraas.

Administrative / Biographical History

Ludwig Mathias Knoblock and his father F.W. Knoblock collected eggs on behalf of Alfred Newton and John Wolley, who visited their home in Finland in 1857. They lived in or near Muonio, Finland. The eggs were bought from local people and records were kept how and when the specimens were obtained.

Manuscripts can be consulted on appointment only. The Museum of Zoology is open Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 17:00 pm. Access and reproduction is at the discretion of the Archivist.
