Scope and Content

Photographs and papers relating to the survey of Athlit Castle, Palestine, 1930-1936 including photographs of the ruins of Athlit Castle, map of Athlit, financial accounts of the survey and temperature charts. Photographs showing scenes north of Jericho 1930-1935; Album of illustrations to accompany note on Madreseh el Khatuniyeh Jerusalem; photographs of Ramleh and a pot makers photograph exhibited at the R.I.B.A Camera Club; as well as an architectural sketch plan of a house near Herod's Gate, Jerusalem.

Waddington, Sir James Hilary Sheffield (1903-1989) Knight, Architect Inspector, Archaeologist.

Born 21 September 1903, Archaeological work in the City of London, 1922-1930; Architect to Egypt Exploration Society's archaeological expeditions to Tell el-Amarna, Upper Egypt, 1930-1932; appointed Architect Inspector, Palestine Archaeological Museum, February 1932; architectural work at Tell el-Amarna, December 1932-January 1933; admitted to Register of Registered Architects of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, 1933; on the staff of the Archaeological Survey in India, 1937; MBE; Member of the Society of Antiquaries. Died 25 July 1989.
