Scope and Content

Two poems, presented as additional material for Davenant's heroic poem "Gondibert", with notes on their source among Lord Mordaunt's papers and their publication history. Dated "Dec. 1678".

Administrative / Biographical History

Sir William Davenant, 1606-1668, poet and dramatist, was appointed (the first official) Poet Laureate in 1638. There is a full account of his life in DNB and numerous other sources.
