Administrative / Biographical History

This committee was set up in 1982 with the following objectives: to contribute to the Channel Four's religious broadcasting; to foster fresh ideas in this area; to assist the churches responses to the new channel; be available for consultation and advice on matters relating to religious broadcasting on the channel. The committee consisted at foundation of two representatives from each of the following bodies: the Church of England; the Church of Scotland (also representing other Scottish denominations including the Episcopal Church in Scotland); the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales; the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland; the Methodist Church; the Baptist Union; the United Reform Church; the British Council of Churches. There was also a related trust for the committee.
