Papers of W. Owen, Auctioneers

Contains sales catalogues with particulars relating to the sale of Anglesey property including Anglesey Castle, theatrical costumes and jewellery in 1904; three Caernarfonshire properties, Pengwern Hall in Rhuddlan, Cantref in Caernarfon and Pen y Bryn in Aber, sold in 1905, 1937 and 1970 respectively, as well as particulars from the sale of Beau-Desert, Staffordshire (home of the Marquess of Anglesey).

Also includes particulars of items stolen, persons wanted and charged by the Constable's Office, Caernarfon between 1879 and 1881; an Inventory of the Bull Hotel, Llangefni, Anglesey. Also contains two printed articles written by Thomas J. Owen, of Pen-y-Bryn, Aber, Caernarfonshire, one of which is a short history of Aber, the other relates to a case of furious driving which occurred in Aber in 1773, which, the article states, was transcribed from material in the Caernarfonshire Great Sessions papers among the Porth yr Aur solicitors papers at the University of Wales, Bangor.

W. Owen is a family-run firm of auctioneers, which was established by William Owen in 1918 and based originally at the Masonic Chambers, Bangor. The business was passed on from father to son, as firstly William Norman Owen and then William Anthony Owen, who is the current owner, took over. The firm moved to Cathedral Chambers in 1926 and is now located at 314 High Street, Bangor.

Material is arranged chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
