A legal formulary, comprising examples of documents of many kinds (parochial, manorial, hundredal, and general legal), apparently assembled by Edward Bucknall, JP, as a reference work for his own use; preceded by a brief index (on folios 2-5v). The examples, which are in several contemporary hands, are taken from Shropshire documents of the 1660s and relate mainly to Munslow Hundred. The outer front cover is annotated: Edward Bucknall his Booke Ano Domini 1661; this is repeated on folio 1 with the date 1662, and Bucknall's name is mentioned frequently throughout in connexion with the various documents cited.
Edward Bucknall may be identified as the Edward Bucknal, son of George Bucknal of Shropshire, who matriculated at Merton College, Oxford on 14 November 1661, aged eighteen.
