Papers of the Manchester doctor, John Webster Bride (1884-1963), University of Manchester lecturer and hospital consultant surgeon. There are also some papers of his father, John Bride, a general practitioner.
J W Bride's papers comprise primarily correspondence and drafts of articles and lectures. There are drafts and texts of articles and lectures he delivered, as well as a large file of reports on individual medical cases, possibly intended to accompany slide presentations, although the slide transparencies are not present. His correspondence includes C.V.s, testimonials and job applications, and a file of general correspondence dating from 1935-1949. This includes some medical reports prepared for legal cases. There is a file relating to his support for fund-raising by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and one relating to material from local hospitals, especially the Manchester Northern Hospital, of whose Friends Committee he was a member.
The papers of John Bride include an undated book with notes on medical topics, and his Midwifery Records between 1865-1895, relating to the area around Wilmslow, Cheshire. There is also a collection of notes on specific medical cases, possibly intended for publication, and some testimonials.
