The collection consists of corporate records and promotional material relating to William B Reid & Co Ltd . Includes:
WB Reid & Co Ltd was registered on 11 May 1891 and acquired the businesses of WB Reid & Co, of Leazes Brewery (founded 1837 ) of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and Reid Brothers & Co, wine and spirit merchants of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, as well as the agency of William Younger & Co Ltd of Edinburgh, Scotland, for Northumberland and the Northern Division of Durham. The company owned a chain of public houses in the North of England, in its own name and in those of its subsidiaries John Reid & Sons Ltd (acquired in 1944) and J K Boucher Ltd (acquired in 1948). The company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of William Younger & Co Ltd in the 1950s, and in 1959 its assets and liabilities were transferred to Scottish Brewers Ltd in 1959, when W B Reid & Co Ltd ceased trading.
The material is arranged according to the Scottish Brewing Archive classification scheme used within all SBA collections.
