Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1838 the firm of Fullerton & Craig was established at the Vulcan Foundry, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, specialising chiefly in the construction of mine winding equipment, compressors, pumps, coolers and evaporators. In 1920 the business was incorporated under the name Fullerton, Hodgart & Barclay Ltd . It continued in the same line of business, undertaking a large majority of its contracts for South African customers though its selling agent, Blane & Co (Engineers) (Pty) Ltd . In c1953 the company acquired Maitland (Ironfounders) Ltd , iron casters, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The company created an engineering subsidiary company, Alphacast Ltd , in 1962 that appears to have operated until the late 1960s from Fullerton, Hodgart & Barclay's Vulcan works. In 1977 the company went into liquidation.
