Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Adam Teacher, Chairman of William Teacher & Sons Ltd, acquired land at Kennethmont in 1895 and started building the distillery in 1897. Adam Teacher died in 1898 just when the finishing touches were being made to his distillery. Ardmore was created to guarantee supplies of malt whisky for their own blending requirements, primarily for the Teacher's Highland Cream brand. As part of the William Teacher & Sons Ltd group of operations, the distillery became part of Allied Distillers Ltd in 1988.
