Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Broadway Trust Co Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1924 in Broadway, Westminster, London, England. The memorandum of association lists the company as being bankers, capitalists, financiers, investors and money lenders. One of the first acts of the company was to register a patent of its chairman, Charles Burney, for the "Improvements in or relating to the treatment of wood or similar bodies when used with cement or the likes". The company then licensed use of the patent to other companies, including the London & Exeter Profacto Co Ltd. The company was associated with William Beardmore & Co Ltd , steel manufacturers and engineers, Glasgow, Scotland, who held shares in the company and also used the patents marketed by the company. By the 1940s, the company was marketing gun and ammunition patents with contracts established with the Ministry of Munitions and William Beardmore & Co Ltd. The company entered voluntary liquidation in 1960 .
