Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The firm of Raalte Behrnd & Co , merchants, Glasgow, Scotland, contracted with Antonius G Bosch of Amsterdam, manager of The Netherlands India Dry Dock Co to execute and supply docks, jetties etc. at Batavia (now Jakata, Indonesia) and Sourabaya. Raalte Behrend & Co subcontracted with Hana, Donald & Co , engineers and shipbuilders, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, for them to do the work. Troubles followed, the original contract of 1873 being modified and Scottish firms agreeing to take shares in the Netherlands Dry Dock Co in 1879 .
