Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Lanark Race Club was founded in 1908 as a horse racing club based at the Lanark race course, Lanark, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The Club was founded at the same time as the Lanark Race Course Co Ltd, the subscribers of which were invited to join the Club. Membership of the club was open to both men and women who had to be proposed by an existing member to the Club committee. In c1952, the subscription was £4 which admitted members to all races at Lanark race course for the year, or £2 membership with a charge of 17 shillings 6 pence for each race day attended. For 35 shillings, non-members could have a day's access to the Club which provided a private Club stand, coffee room and bar. In 1970, the Club's constitution stated its objects as the promotion of horse racing at Lanark; to provide special facilities for Club members; and to promote the Club.
It would appear that the Club was wound-up at the same time as Lanark Racecourse Holdings Co Ltd, the managers of the race course and went into liquidation in 1978 .
